The Power of Propaganda
Direct Definition – Propaganda:
Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
Information, ideas, or rumours deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.
The goal of our website is to promote awareness surrounding sources and bias as well as the news spread in everyday media platforms:
We tackle these topics by:
Writing about them.
The article segment of our website consists of our opinions as well as the results of polls that we have put in place. We fuse our own beliefs with the general consensus of a topic. We dive into multiple perspectives of each idea so that the articles are as diverse in content as possible. We have included photos, proof and quotes to back up the arguments for different sides.
Speaking to professionals.
In our podcast segment we have spoken to a few professionals as well as simply reaching out into our school community. This is to bring a fresh voice to the subjects that we have written about. It is also so that us and our readers can gain a more full and knowledgeable understanding surrounding certain ideas.
Interacting with our readers.
We interact in many different ways. First off, we have run two rounds of polls in order to gain an idea of where people around our age stand in certain subject areas. We have spoken with professionals as another form of interaction. Finally, we have established our own call to action : putting up posters that educate others on how to identify misinformation. After you have read our poster you can play real, fake or twisted to put your knowledge surrounding propaganda to the test.
We encourage those around us to:
- Receive information from the primary source.
- Know all the facts, instead of inferring, before forming a concluding opinion.
- Understand when the vocabulary in a source suggests something beyond what is written.
- Learn from multiple perspectives.
- Rely on more than social media platforms for credible and reliable information.
